Kids Lunch Club
During the summer months, Kids Lunch Club will serve a grab-and-go style lunch Monday-Friday between 11:45-12:25. Lunches are available to all kids who need one. This is a collaborative program powered by our community. Representatives from the faith community, school district, city, nonprofit and business community have all come together to create the Kids Lunch Club. We need your help. Learn more here.
The BackPack Program is run by the Northeast Iowa Food Bank in partnership with Decorah UCC. The food bank supplies food to send children in need home from school with foods that are shelf-stable, kid-friendly and healthy. The foods are easily prepared and consumed when parents are working and can’t prepare meals for their children, or when there simply isn’t enough food at home for the children to eat. If you are interested in volunteering with the program–either helping unload the truck or delivering the backpacks to the school–let us know!
On the first and third Thursdays of the month, people of all walks of life, some who have never met one another, gather for a short time to enjoy a hearty meal together. Farm workers and doctors, musicians and business people, clerks and clerics, athletes and scholars, women and men, all ages, all backgrounds. The only commonality among some may be their interest in sharing bread and talking with others. Come join the community for dinner on Thursday and watch for announcements of the dates Decorah UCC is sponsoring and serving the meal.
Intergenerational Summer Trip
Each summer the church sponsors a trip for folks of all ages to go and learn from other organizations and churches who are working to improve their community. Learning by doing the work alongside folks helps us return to Decorah better equipped for work in our own community. The trip in 2013 was to St. Louis, MO. In 2014, we headed to Pine Ridge, SD. In 2015, we traveled to Chicago, IL. In 2016, we’re headed to Atlanta, GA.
